Cote Breton Brut Cidre is born with apples at its very core. No concentrates, compromises or preservatives are used, just 100 per cent natural, freshly pressed, apple juice gives this true cidre its light sparkle and rich, deep apple flavour.

We believe that using 100% natural apple juice means that the cidre in your glass is truly what the apple created. The apples used in this cidre retain the flavours of the soils, sun, sea and spirit of the Breton coast (Cote Breton).

Apples in Brittany taste different to anywhere else in the world. They are grown in the perfect climate by skilled, passionate farmers. And not just any old apple makes the cut, heritage varieties of apples specifically grown for cidre are used to make a truly authentic and unique drink.

WHO WE ARE

Truman’s Brewery, East London since 1666, are the sole importers and distributers of Cote Breton Brut Cidre in the UK. After falling in love with this true cidre on holidays in Britany, we approached Val D’Rance, who produce some of the finest cidre in the region. This collaboration brings a unique cidre across the sea and gives drinkers in the UK a chance to try an authentic French cidre.

In 1953 a cooperative of 9 local apple farmers in Brittany was created. The dream was to protect and grow the apple farming business, there are now over 240 farmers who are part of the cooperative and a critical part of food heritage has been saved.

With over 60 years of experience, the farmers produce some of Brittany’s finest cider. This knowledge and heritage combined with modern production methods, allows them to craft a special cidre with natural fruit flavours.

PIP TO GLASS

Cote Breton Brut Cidre is all about the apples, made from 100% freshly pressed apple juice from five counties in Brittany. No concentrates are used to make the lightly sparkling cider brimming with fresh apple flavours. The cidre is lovingly crafted using traditional techniques in several steps:

NATURAL

Apples are grown locally and picked from October to December, until they are fully ripe. They are then taken down the lane by tractors to the press.

WASHING/CRUSHING

Carefully selected, apples are then washed and sorted. The whole apples, including the skin are crushed. The pulp is then aged in barrels for five to six hours to bring out the fragrance and golden colour in the cidre.

PRESSING

Up to 15 tons of apples are gradually pressed at a time. Once all the juice is extracted, the leftover apple pomace is dried and sold as animal feed.

FERMENTATION

The clear juice is then fermented for four to five months and allows for the conversion of natural apple sugar into alcohol and maturation of flavours. There are no extra sugars, water or concentrates added. When it is finished any remaining yeasts and other impurities are removed by a centrifuge.

BLENDING

The blend is the mixture of several cuvees. The Master Blender has years of experience and can blend a consistent, authentic and high quality product year round.

Lying in the northwest corner of France, Brittany is one of the great historic provinces. Known by many in the UK for its stunning windswept coastline with sunny beaches, lighthouses and medieval villages with stone houses and thatched roofs.

During summer there are upwards of 1800 sunlight hours a year and minimum 20ᵒC temperatures, this makes Brittany is the perfect climate for growing and ripening apples. A rich heritage of decades of cider making and drinking has made the Britons masters of their craft. Brittany is also famous for its high quality seafood, with world renowned oysters as well as mussels, scallops, clams, lobsters and langoustines.
